My life one post at a time

  • Loooong time coming

So it's been 6 months...time for an update (you're welcome, Paul).

The rest of summer was really good.  I made a lot of friends, had lots of fun times, and got to spend the whole summer being married...which, of coure, I still am married obviously.

August's big adventure was the fruition of my wife's wedding gift to me: A Red Sox vs. Yankees game.  Unfortunately, we lost that one.

September's big thing was a week in New Hampshire with my dad hiking in the White Mounains doing what is called the "Presadential Traverse".  We hit 7 peaks in just 3 days and hiked about 25 miles in total.  I took tons of pictures.  I had so much fun, but was completely exhausted after the whole thing was said and done.

Fall '08 season of NC at camp was a blast.  I love the teachers that come and I loved getting to know them better this year.  Of course, working in the kitchen was always an adventure.

Now for the bad.  In November, Liz got laid off from her job at the preschool due to lack of enrollment and therefore lack of funds.  Luckily, she was able to collect unemployment and stay on her insurance through COBRA.  Also, I took a Mon-Fri job at Donelan's Supermarket to keep up the income, especially considering camp stopped having mid-week groups after NC stopped.
Next on the bad list: Dan, Aaron, and Josiah all got laid off.  This means that I am now currently the only veteran staff member in the kitchen (they did hire someone to do the weekend work, thankfully) and Liz took the weekend hosting job for groups.  As sort of a win/lose situation, this means that I'm working a ton every weekend, but it also means that I rarely get a day off in a week, depending on my schedule at Donelan's.

Now for the good.  Liz just took a job today at another child care center that's in Westford.  She'll be able to get insurance (through the same company no less!) in 3 months and she'll be getting paid more than when she was working at the preschool.  Plus, she was guarenteed to not get laid off due to lack of enrollment!  YAY!

I think that's about it for now.  I might try and keep this thing updated more frequently, but maybe not.  Who knows.

    Peace, God bless

    Fond memories

Just heard "This Is A Call" by TFK playing on the computer next to me.  For some reason...it made me think of a few years ago in the kitchen and remember how much fun that summer was ('04, in case you're wondering).

    Yeah...good times.

  • Almost Mid-Summer Report

So...Week 4 of 9 is at a mid-point.  My life is getting into that groove that it needs to get into, job-wise.  I've come up with a pretty good way of managing my time and getting the videos done, which is nice.  I still have a wicked late night on Thursdays, but I'm very glad that I don't have a wicked late night on Friday like I did last summer.

Married life is still good.  Our apartment as of right now is pretty messy, but this weekend will see it get cleaned up again (hopefully).  Other than that, nothing really new to report.

The Dark Knight is going to be freaking sweet.  I get to see it in IMAX this Saturday.

I saw the final on-disc setlist for Rock Band 2 today on IGN's website and I've gotta say, I'm extremely impressed by the variety and awesomeness of it.  Among my favorites from scanning down the list are:
    AFI: "Girl's Not Grey"
    Avenged Sevenfold: "Almost Easy"
Bon Jovi: "Livin' On A Prayer"
    Disturbed: "Down With The Sickness"
    Jimmy Eat World: "The Middle"
    Linkin Park: "One Step Closer"
Red Hot Chili Peppers: "Give It Away"
    Rise Against: "Give It All"
    Silversun Pickups: "Lazy Eye"

My feet hurt right now because I just played Safari for the first time since Week 1...so I'm hurtin' right now.

    This weekend: The Dark Knight
Next Weekend: Red Sox vs. Yankees!!!
Weekend after: Liz, Dad, and I are hiking Mt. Monadnock
    Weekend after: Liz's grandparents 60th (? I think ?) anniversary in Way-The-Heck-Up-North, New Hampshire

So...my schedule is pretty packed as of right now.  I thought that going into this summer that I was going to have more free weekends to hang out with the staff, but I'm quickly realizing that that's not going to happen.

I've been a part in a skit that some resource members have been a part of since last week and it's been really cool.  Especially today's runthrough of it.  We got such an awesome response out of the kids at its "peak" of emotion and whatnot and it's really cool to see their reactions after finishing it.  The skit is a dramatic pantomime to Lifehouse's song, "Everything".  It's based off of a skit that one of our unit leaders found on YouTube...which can be found here.

I'm pretty sure I hit all the high-points that I needed to hit...so I'm going to stop typing in just a minute so you can get on with your life.

Please be praying for the staff here at Grotonwood, as well as at Oceanwood (OH!***), and the campers at both camps.

    Peace, God bless
    Scotty

***: My sister got a freaking tattoo...WHAT?!  I think I'm more upset that she got one before me most of all.  Jerkface.

  • So I'm Married...

Yes...I'm married, for those of you who do not yet know.  It happened on June 1 and I couldn't be happier...I really couldn't.

Although it would be nice if I could magically get our apartment clean by pulling a Mary Poppins and snapping my fingers to music...yeah I just pulled a Mary Poppins reference out of my butt.  I'm not sure how it happened either.

Brave Saint Saturn comes out with a new CD this month...I'm wicked pumped for that.
Third Day's new CD comes out soon also...I'm wicked pumped for that as well.

Camp staff starts flooding in on Friday (wow, that's tomorrow, isn't it???).  I'm really excited for this summer.  I really feel that God is going to do some huge things with a lot of people and it's just going to be one big explosion of awesome.

    Did I mention I'm MARRIED???????

    Peace, God bless

    The Staff Video is done.
Hopefully I'll have all the DVDs ready to be mailed out by the weekend.
G-Wood Day is Monday and there's tons of prep coming.
I get to work outside all day on G-Wood Day so I'll see whatever friends happen to show (at least 2, anyway...one being my other source of summer-sanity...yay).
The new TFK CD has grown on me and I really like it.

    Peace, God bless
